Climate change and volcanism influence each other

If the ice sheets at the poles melt, the earth’s crust begins to move. The result: more volcanic eruptions worldwide. This could slow down global warming somewhat. But does this help in the fight against the climate crisis?

The earth in the southwest of Iceland has torn open twice within four weeks. Lava is currently pouring out of cracks several hundred meters long and covering the port town of Grindavik with destructive, scorching rock. Last December, Etna erupted again in Sicily and there has been a lot of rumbling for months under the Phlegraean Fields (a supervolcano!) in the Bay of Naples. Are these events still a coincidence or is there already rapid climate change behind them?
