The Republic of Austria is trying to get rid of its most famous “climate glue”. She is German and can be expelled in an emergency. In the star talk to Anja Windl about intimidation, unwanted celebrities and why Fridays for Future has to be replaced.
You are considered one of the most well-known protagonists of the last generation. Was there a kind of awakening experience for you?
It was a process. In 2021, the term Anthropocene was used for the first time in a seminar at the University of Klagenfurt, which is when I became fully aware of the possibility of human extinction in its current cultural form. The fact that a professor sat down there and said: That’s the way it is, the existence of the current civilization is probably coming to an end, blew me away. First I went to the university garden and cried for an hour.
