How do you clean an air fryer? This will make the device clean again
The more often an Aifryer is used, the faster it collects grease splashes and food residue. In order to maintain the hygiene and performance of the device, you should clean the hot air fryer regularly. We’ll show you how.
Which cleaning products are suitable for air fryers?
Since food is prepared in a hot air fryer, aggressive cleaners should not be used. Instead, rely on tried-and-tested home remedies that almost everyone has at home – such as dishwashing liquid, baking soda or vinegar. Alternatively, you can also use fresh lemons:
- Dishwashing liquid: It is best to use a product with high fat-dissolving power. Mix a little water with the dishwashing liquid, use it to soap everything – including the frying basket – and then wipe everything (that cannot be removed) with a wet, clean cloth.
- baking powder (or baking soda): Mix the powder with water until a thick consistency is formed. Spread the cleaning paste on the stubborn incrustations and let them take effect briefly before wiping the affected areas clean with a cloth.
- Vinegar: The combination of clean water and a few drops of vinegar is also said to be suitable for cleaning a hot air fryer inside and out. Here too, always use a wet, clean cloth to treat the device.
Extra tip:
Do you already know the “lemon method”? To do this, fill the outer basket of the Aifryer halfway with water. Then add the juice of two to three freshly squeezed lemons and switch the device on at the highest level for a maximum of 20 minutes. Allow the hot air fryer to cool briefly before pouring out the contents, rinsing out the basket and wiping the inside of the device and letting it dry: the citric acid should dissolve even the most stubborn incrustations as if by magic.
Cleaning the hot air fryer: This is the best way to do it
Important: Before you start cleaning, unplug the air fryer first. The device should also be completely cooled down.
1. The case
Take a soft cloth (please not a sponge as it could scratch the surface), hold it under warm water and add a squirt of detergent to it. Now wipe the outside of the hot air fryer housing clean and then dry it with a clean kitchen towel – this will avoid unsightly water stains.
2. The interior
Take the frying basket out of the device and clean it by hand with a soft brush – ideally with hot water and a little detergent. Or you can use the lemon method, as described above. Meanwhile, clean the interior with a clean sponge, preferably in combination with hot water and detergent. To remove the soap residue, wipe with a damp cloth. Then let the interior dry before pushing the frying basket in.
Tip: Use a toothbrush to get into hard-to-reach places.
3. The heating coil
At the end, the heating coil remains: This should also be cleaned, ideally with a soft microfiber cloth that is only slightly moistened. If you find stubborn incrustations on the element, remove them with a little detergent. However, the soap residue must then be completely removed, otherwise it would burn the next time it is used.
This way you can prevent stubborn incrustations
You can take preventative measures to ensure that grease residue and food residue does not accumulate in the hot air fryer – such as:
- Clean the frying basket after each use. In order to loosen stubborn incrustations, they should first be soaked.
- First dry the basket well (or let it dry in the fresh air) before putting it back into the device.
- If your air fryer has a collecting container for fat, this must also be emptied regularly and then cleaned.
- Use Baking paper inserts for air fryers. The silicone molds can be cleaned in the dishwasher after use.
- It is best to store the device in a protected and dry place to avoid scratches and layers of dust on the hot air fryer.
