When Claus Peymann was director of the Burgtheater in Vienna – we are talking about the end of the last century here – the Theater in der Josefstadt, this plush stage temple of the Viennese bourgeoisie, was one of his opponents. Vienna has now become his artistic home. The fact that Josefstadt director Herbert Föttinger offers the old master a stage is worth it for his house. The name Peymann still resonates in Vienna; his 13 years at the castle were a show not forgotten in the city.
