Claudia Obermeier case: 40 clues to a 33-year-old murder in Middle Franconia – Bavaria

The police received around 40 tips from the public about the murder of a 22-year-old in Middle Franconia 33 years ago. “This shows us that the case is still present,” said police spokesman Marc Siegl on Thursday. Two investigators presented this on Wednesday evening on the ZDF program “Aktenzeichen XY…” and asked for information.

A walker discovered the body of 22-year-old Claudia Obermeier in a forest in Röthenbach an der Pegnitz in August 1990. According to police, she was the victim of a sexual offense and was strangled by an unknown male perpetrator. The criminal police recently reopened the murder after a trace of DNA was found in evidence from the crime scene thanks to modern analysis methods.

According to the police, a comparison with the DNA analysis file at the Federal Criminal Police Office showed that the murderer could have left DNA material at a crime scene again 22 years later: during a break-in in a shell of a building in Nuremberg. The investigators now hope that the tools and fuses stolen could lead them to the perpetrator.
