The architecture of the eighties is a bit like the pop songs from that time: on the one hand, quite a long time ago, on the other hand, they are still constantly present today. Probably nowhere is this more true than in Berlin, where both parts of the city showed a particular enthusiasm for building because the 750th anniversary celebrations were coming up in 1987. In the eastern part of Berlin, this led, among other things, to the vassals from the tributary provinces saying, for example, “781 years of Dresden!” wrote to their Trabis because they were so annoyed by the buoyancy that they also had to pay for in the end. In the Federal Republic, as far as we can remember, not everyone was entirely enthusiastic about the subsidized permanent construction site in “West Berlin”. But it was just the last years of the Cold War, as a result of which some people still throw tantrums if you spell West Berlin without a hyphen. (Or East Berlin with it.)
