Being able to surpass yourself? Easy to say when we have been a finalist three times on Koh-Lanta. And yet, self-confidence is not a given for anyone, not even for a seasoned adventurer. In his book Zero limits to your dreamspublished by Marabout, Claude Dartois looks back on the experiences that helped him and made him grow in order to encourage you to get out of your comfort zone and take action.

Start small

“Stop sitting and looking at others,” says Claude Dartois. According to him, procrastination is a hindrance that wastes time and encourages us to never achieve our goals since we constantly put them off until later… “Everyone is capable, but not everyone takes the plunge , that’s the difference. You have to make the decision to want to start,” he continues.

Get started yes, but not randomly. You have to start small, find something within your reach, something accessible so as not to give up quickly. “Take small steps, progress at your own pace and don’t try to accomplish something immediately impressive,” advises Claude Dartois. His tip? Set yourself small, regular challenges until you reach your final goal. “I always loved running, but I increased the distances little by little, I didn’t start by telling myself that I was going to run a marathon straight away,” he confides.

Develop your “inner strength”

By “inner strength”, the ex-finalist of Koh-Lanta means the mind, which he considers “more powerful” than physical strength. According to him, it is this quality that will allow you not to give up and give up when it is difficult.

“We all have a mind” and “we are all capable of doing things,” he says. Claude Dartois explains that most people are often stopped by fear, doubt, and the many other negative signals which parasitize our self-confidence and which do not spare it either.

“To prepare for a marathon, for example, the course may be boring and long. There is fatigue, discipline, lack of sleep, etc. But it is precisely this whole process and the experiences that you will live that will strengthen you, it is not the result in itself,” explains the athlete before continuing: “Don’t set yourself a challenge to impress the people. others, you might not go all the way, do it for yourself.” On the other hand, you can absolutely have a source of motivation to boost yourself: your children or a goal in mind to achieve.

Be kind to yourself

And when we fail then? Here again, there is a good way to react which is none other than to “use your defeat to bounce back better”. “The gain brings satisfaction but it’s the internal work that counts,” says the former adventurer of Koh Lanta, which suggests asking the right questions: “Why did I fail? » Or “How do I improve?” “. “Even if you don’t succeed, you shouldn’t tell yourself that everything that has been done is lost, on the contrary, you will capitalize on it elsewhere,” encourages the athlete before continuing: “You have to be kind to yourself- even and saying to yourself: ‘I’m proud of myself’. Today it didn’t pay off, it doesn’t matter. We sweep, we don’t stop there, and we don’t care about the others.”

Don’t be afraid to disappoint those around you either, “they will only be disappointed if you are”, underlines Claude Dartois, for whom victory remains a relative and subjective notion. “My adventures Koh Lantafor me who has never won it, I still have the feeling of having won them all because I invested fully,” concludes the former adventurer, not a little proud of his four experiences.
