Clandestine group GCC claims to be victim of “usurpers”

The group Gjhuventu clandestina corsa (GCC, “Clandestine Corsican Youth”) assured Tuesday, in a new press release sent to Corse-Morning, to have been the victim of “usurpers” who “claimed” their actions. A communication that suggests a possible split within the small group.

According to this new text, these “usurpers” would be the authors of a previous press release, on March 30, which affirmed that “GCC was formed on several very distinct branches” and specified that “several actions” were “carried out by different groups”.

“We believe that there are several small groups or several teams acting a bit like franchisees, with specific geographical sectors,” a source close to the investigation told AFP, commenting on these press releases.

Threat

In this new three-page text, the group regrets that in its press release of March 30, this “group of usurpers” “claimed (their) actions without explaining or even understanding them”, and condemns “firmly this act”.

If this were to “recur, the problem will no longer be solved with a simple press release”, warns this last text, in a spelling and grammar as approximate as the previous one, with in particular mistakes – or possible coded messages, according to this same source close to the investigation – in the names of Alain Ferrandi and Pierre Alessandri, both sentenced to life imprisonment for the assassination of the prefect Erignac and recently placed on semi-freedom in Corsica.

Threats are also addressed “to drug sellers”, to whom the group specifies that their “Corsican name will not protect (them),” ensuring that “the hunt is now open”.

Claimed fires

Like the previous press release of March 30, this press release on Tuesday claims the arson attacks that targeted the town halls of Afa and Appietto, on the outskirts of Ajaccio: “By targeting the town halls, we are directly attacking the State and the nationalist elected officials who do not knew how to keep their promises”, they write.

This press release, which is not dated, makes no reference to the fire, on the night of Sunday to Monday, of the house of a deputy mayor of Ajaccio on which a tag “GCC” was found.

The “worthy heritage” of the FLNC?

Unlike the March 30 press release, in which GCC seemed to pledge allegiance to the FLNC by asking for its “official entry” at its side, this latest press release makes no reference to the National Liberation Front of Corsica and even claims several of its actions.

The first press release from the GCC, in which it announced its creation, dates back to February 7. “If a split is confirmed, we will be in the worthy heritage of the FLNC which has divided several times”, with “a possible new fratricidal struggle”, told AFP a source very familiar with the history of nationalism.
