Civic service attracted 145,000 volunteers in 2021, 3.5% more than in 2019

Some 145,000 young volunteers performed civic service last year, 3.5% more than in 2019, the last year before the Covid crisis, the agency responsible for implementing this system said on Monday. reserved for 16-25 year olds. The structures which welcome young people are associations, State services, public establishments or local authorities (but not companies), active in solidarity, the defense of the environment, sport or culture, in particular .

An asset on the CV

In 2021, the volunteers were 61% girls and their average age was 21 years old. Some 80% of young people consider that their mission has been useful to them in defining their plans for the future, according to a survey conducted by the Agency last June.

In addition, 91% of recruiters “have already heard of civic service and have a good image of it”, and 71% value it “as an asset on a young person’s CV”, according to an IFOP survey published on Monday, carried out for the agency with directors or human resources managers. This device is “popular with young people”, because it “gives this generation the means to engage concretely for essential causes”, commented the Secretary of State in charge of youth, Sarah El Haïry.
