City of Nuremberg honors author Ruth Weiss – Bavaria

The journalist and writer was born into a Jewish family in Franconia in 1924. She managed to escape from Hitler’s Germany. An opulent commemorative publication is published to mark her 98th birthday.

The city of Nuremberg honored the journalist and writer Ruth Weiss with a ceremony. Weiss, born Ruth Löwenthal in 1924 to a Jewish family in Franconia, managed to escape to South Africa in 1936. In the 1960s she established herself there as a correspondent for various media. Due to her commitment against apartheid, she was later unable to enter the country. She made a name for herself as a book author and now lives in Denmark. To mark her 98th birthday at the end of July, a 700-page commemorative publication will be published, containing 80 contributions by authors from four generations.
