City council decision: Tree planting campaign in the new partner city – Munich

For the first visit to the new partner city, Munich has thought of something special: trees are to be planted in the Israeli city of Be’er Sheva in 2021 – as a symbol for the year in which the partnership began. The city council made the decision on Wednesday. The federal government has existed since July 2021. The first delegation trip is now planned for May, reports the town hall. The first trees will then be planted.

In the course of the year, a “Munich Forest” is to be created from 1921, mainly lemon, olive, almond and orange trees, and 100 trees and shrubs are also planned in a new zoo. Be’er Sheva lies in the middle of the Negev desert; the climate there is hot and dry, especially in summer. The forest should therefore also serve as a place of recreation for the population. Mayor Katrin Habenschaden (Greens) said that the city partnership could now “put down roots and thrive”.
