SPD and CDU start in Bremen in hot election campaign phase

There are just four weeks left until the state elections in Bremen. SPD and CDU are sending reinforcements to the Hanseatic city for a successful start to the election campaign.
A good four weeks before the state elections, the SPD and CDU in Bremen started the hot phase of the election campaign. Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte received support on Wednesday evening from Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (all SPD). “We need a strong Bremen for a strong north,” said Bovenschulte at an event. “Let’s do everything to ensure that the SPD crosses the finish line as the winner on May 14.”
In the smallest federal state, the parliament, the Bremen Parliament, will be re-elected on May 14th. Bremen is currently governed by a coalition of SPD, Greens and Left.
The top candidate of the CDU, Frank Imhoff, announced that he wanted to lead the state into a new era if he won the election. At a campaign event, he criticized that the existing government had come to terms with problems in education, work and transport. North Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) also took part. He called on the federal government to speed up the implementation of legislative projects. Specifically, Wüst mentioned the topics of asylum and migration as well as planning acceleration and the transformation of the economy. Wüst said it was the countries that were leading the way and putting pressure on them.
