An action-fest for series lovers

With “Citadel” the second most expensive series of all time starts on April 28th. That’s what viewers expect.
On April 28th the time has come. Amazon Prime Video presents the most expensive series ever after “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” (also from Amazon Studios). “Citadel” is a prestige project by the Russo brothers Anthony (53) and Joe (51), who are celebrated, among other things, for their work on the Marvel “Avengers” films. After more than three years of hard work, around 300 million US dollars invested and a lot of critical debates in the production team, the first season with six episodes is now ready to go.
“Citadel” is an independent secret service and does not belong to any nation. The organization’s agents are scattered around the world, working undercover. So did Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas, 40) and Mason Kane (Richard Madden, 36) – until a syndicate almost cost them their lives. Eight years later, Sinh and Kane can no longer remember their past. An old colleague, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci, 62), tracks them down and recruits them again.
Why “Citadel” could be successful
As leading actress Chopra Jonas emphasizes in an interview with the news agency spot on news, she only knows a few projects from the secret agent genre with a female main character. “Citadel” focuses on the agent duo of Chopra Jonas and Madden, but leaves the 40-year-old in no way inferior to her male colleague. Nadia Sinh is badass, athletic and smart. Even in the most hopeless situation, she knows how to help herself and is not dependent on the support of men.
At the same time, “Citadel” with the supporting character Bernard Orlick provides funny moments in the dark action drama. The supervisor of the two agents has little understanding for the fact that they now lead a completely different life. He tears Mason Kane out of everyday life with a daring kidnapping.
“Citadel” – A worldwide phenomenon?
Like the Citadel merger in the series, the Citadel franchise is a global adventure. In addition to the US version, Amazon Studios and an offshoot of ITV are already working on the Italian edition. An Indian “Citadel” format is already in the works. Further spin-offs from different countries and in different languages are planned.
That is still workable
“Citadel” is a spy series built primarily on suspense. It is therefore understandable that many fight scenes and only a few profound dialogues are the focus. However, in some places the series seems as if it is under time pressure. The episodes, which sometimes last just under 40 minutes, fly by. The question often arises as to what actually happened in this short time.
Conclusion
Nonetheless, “Citadel” captivates the audience to the screens. If you fancy outstanding actors in an expensive production, you’ve come to the right place. Fans of Chopra Jonas (“Quantico”) and Madden (“Game of Thrones”) should already be used to the concentrated action from their previous cinema and series hits.
