The story of Irena Gut initially ran as a play on Broadway, and last year it was also made into a film: “Irena’s Vow” tells of the eponymous young woman, who is employed as a housekeeper for a Wehrmacht officer when she hears about the liquidation of the ghetto in Tarnopol, Poland learns. She hides twelve Jewish people in the basement for two years and is constantly afraid of being discovered.
A child was also born during this time, and Roman Haller, now 79, met his lifesaver decades later. Today he is the only survivor from back then; he came to the premiere of the feature film at the Jewish Community Center in Munich. After the screening, a conversation with him is planned. Admission is free, but registration is requested.
