Hollywood star Kevin Costner wants to present the first part of his long-standing passion project “Horizon: An American Saga” at the Cannes Film Festival. It is his fourth directorial project.

Hollywood star Kevin Costner (69) returns to the Croisette. The first part of his long-standing passion project “Horizon: An American Saga” is scheduled to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in mid-May.

He started this western story 35 years ago, Costner explained in a statement from the festival and on Instagram. “I can’t think of a better place than Cannes to show the world the result of such a wonderful adventure.”

He was waiting for the right time to be back in Cannes. In 2003, Costner presented his western “Open Range” there, in which he worked as director, co-producer and leading actor.

A saga of 4 films

Horizon: An American Saga is an epic western series of four planned feature films. The first two chapters are scheduled to appear in quick succession, at the end of June and mid-August. The other feature films still have to be shot. The first part takes place against the backdrop of the American Civil War from 1861 to 1865, when settlers move west in covered wagons.

Costner is on board as lead actor, director, co-writer and producer. He also stars Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson and Jena Malone in front of the camera. Costner most recently starred in the western drama series “Yellowstone.”
