Not all of the 21 films in competition have been shown yet, but some films have already received a lot of praise in Cannes.

Before the end of the Cannes Film Festival, there is no clear favorite for the main prize, the Palme d’Or. Some films were able to convince a particularly large number of critics. Among them are the two competition films in which Sandra Hüller plays. In “The Zone of Interest” by Jonathan Glazer, Hüller plays the wife of concentration camp commandant Rudolf Höß. “Anatomy of a Fall” by Justine Triet was particularly convincing in French criticism. Huller embodies the author Sandra, who has to answer in court after the death of her husband. The 45-year-old has a good chance of winning the award for best actress.

The tragic comedy “Fallen Leaves” by Aki Kaurismäki also received very good reviews. The Finnish cult director is in the running for the Palme d’Or for the fifth time. “Fallen Leaves” tells the story of two lonely people on the fringes of society who are looking for love.

However, not all of the 21 competition films have been shown. Two more premieres will follow on Friday evening.

Last year the satire “Triangle of Sadness” by Ruben Östlund won the main prize. Östlund is president of the jury this year.

Only twice in the history of the film festival, which is taking place for the 76th time this year, has a woman won the Palme d’Or. The closing ceremony begins at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
