Christoph Heusgen, head of the security conference and ex-Merkel adviser, speaks in an interview with the star about his experiences with Donald Trump – and warns of a second term for the former US President.
Mr. Heusgen, does the thought of Donald Trump becoming US President for the second time frighten you?
Yes. We would eventually be dealing with someone who is not a true Democrat. And transatlantic relations are far less important to him than they are to the current president. Not knowing that we don’t have a reliable American partner at our side in the face of the current challenges – that worries me greatly. We’ve seen Trump act in his four years in office. Therefore, we must have no illusions. On the contrary. We have to dress warmly.
