Christiane Ufholz: GDR star died | Regional

Berlin/Leipzig – The jazz scene in the East mourns the loss of Christiane Ufholz († 75)!

She sang with Manfred Krug or in the Günter Fischer sextet. She was a soloist in the well-known DEFA feature film Hostess. Now Christiane Ufholz is dead.

On New Year’s morning, she was found in her apartment in the Schöneberg district of Berlin, as BILD learned from her closest surroundings. The cause is unknown. She leaves behind a son.

Musician Eberhard Klunker confirms: “Christiane’s son David called me and said that his mother passed away.”

The artist, who was born and raised in Leipzig, turned 75 last autumn.

Singer Angelika Mann to BILD: “I wished her the best of health on the phone.” Years ago she fell ill with cancer. But he seemed defeated.

Ufholz moved from the GDR to the Federal Republic in 1976, after which she was one of the first to sign a petition against the expatriation of singer-songwriter Wolf Biermann. Arriving in West Berlin, she initially earned her living again with her learned profession as a hairdresser.

After the fall of the wall, she toured the country with Klaus Renft, among others.
