The mayor of Carhaix-Plouguer Christian Troadec, here in 2017, was dismissed from his position as vice-president of the Brittany regional council.
POLICY – Immediate sanction. The president of the regional council of Brittany, Loïg Chesnais-Girard, announced this Sunday, February 4, to withdraw his regional delegations from his vice-president Christian Troadec, various left-wing mayor of Carhaix (Finistère), after an accident which occurred under the influence of the ‘alcohol.
According to the daily The Telegram, Christian Troadec, 57, lost control of his vehicle Thursday afternoon in Morbihan, ending his race in the garden of a property. The gendarmes who went to the scene of the accident checked him with a blood alcohol level of 1.06 grams per liter of blood, more than double the authorized level (0.5 g/l).
“This accident, which occurred under the influence of alcohol, is serious. I do not compromise with the essential principles and the position of vice-president requires exemplary behavior, expected by the Bretons. From now on, I hope that Christian Troadec will do what is necessary to preserve his health”declared the president of the Brittany Region in a press release.
Is the medication to blame?
Asked by The Telegram on the circumstances of this accident, the mayor of Carhaix assured that he wanted “avoid an animal”. “I was coming back from a business meal. I haven’t drunk for a year because of my health problems. The medications I take may have played a role too. There was probably one drink too many and I regret it”he told the newspaper.
Mayor of Carhaix (7,000 inhabitants) since 2001 and made famous by his role as spokesperson for the Bonnets Rouges movement, Christian Troadec has held the position of vice-president of the Region since 2021, responsible for the languages of Brittany and the Bretons of world.
