Parliament Speaker Søren Gade (60) and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (46) thanked the long-time queen and welcomed the new king. In a message from the king, which Frederiksen read for him, he and Mary promised to devote all their efforts to serving the Danish kingdom in the time given to them.
The text was also published on Instagram: “We hope that we will succeed in making an effort for the good of the entire Danish Empire and in winning the trust of the people. We begin our responsible work in the certainty that the Danish Parliament will support us in our joint work for the good of the Danish Empire Kingdom will meet.” In addition to Denmark, the kingdom also includes Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
To a solemn “Long live His Majesty King Frederik X.” the parliamentarians responded with nine “Hurrah!”
