Virologist Christian Drosten had to endure insults from campers while on vacation. Now a court has convicted a couple for this.

For insulting and defaming the prominent virologist Christian Drosten, the Waren an der Müritz district court in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania sentenced two campers from Berlin to fines of 1,200 euros and 375 euros respectively. The court saw it as proven on Thursday that the 49-year-old man and his co-accused, 51-year-old wife, Drosten, had massively verbally attacked Drosten in June 2022 at a campsite near Wesenberg in the Mecklenburg Lake District.

Christian Drosten insulted as a “criminal”.

The case against a third defendant was dropped. The defendants were accused of calling Drosten a “mass murderer” and “criminal,” among other things. The doctor, who became known for his public appearances during the corona pandemic, was vacationing at the campsite with his family at the time. As a witness, he reported to the court that he had been “battered with a torrent of fecal words.” He felt threatened and insulted.
