Christian Drosten has just come from brushing his teeth. It’s around 9 p.m., a Saturday evening in June 2022. The washhouse at the campsite on the Mecklenburg Lake District is behind him, he has his little son by the hand, they want to go back to their tent. But Germany’s best-known virologist and his then four-year-old were stopped on the bathing and sunbathing lawn by a “bawling man with a beer bottle,” is how Christian Drosten describes the situation now, two years later, in the Waren an der Müritz district court.
