Comeback as “Captain America”? Chris Evans speaks up after speculation via Twitter.
Chris Evans (41) has rejected speculation about a return as “Captain America”. The actor clarified via Twitter that his “Avengers” character Steve Rogers is no longer the legitimate bearer of the famous shield. This honor is now exclusive to Sam Wilson, who Evans Marvel colleague Anthony Mackie (43) embodies. But one after anonther.
“The Hollywood Reporter” published an article over the weekend about the next “Captain America” film. In it, the industry magazine reported that Julius Onah (39, “The Cloverfield Paradox”) will direct the fourth “Captain America” solo.
“Falcon” Sam Wilson is now Captain America
The Hollywood Reporter also announced that Anthony Mackie will star. However, the actor will not play Captain America’s sidekick Falcon, as in previous Marvel films, but the hero himself. In the Disney + series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, Mackie, alias Falcon, took over the baton or shield. In the end credits of the last episode, the series was logically called “Captain America and the Winter Soldier”.
Still, The Hollywood Reporter speculated about a return of old Captain America, Chris Evans. The actor now reacted to this himself. He posted the article in question on Twitter. He wrote “Sam Wilson is Captain America”.
Chris Evans has played Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, in seven films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011. In the final Avengers film, Endgame, Steve Rogers sheds the superhero burden and hands over the shield to Sam Wilson.
