Once he caused a stir with a violent attack on his girlfriend Rihanna, now Chris Brown is threatened with new trouble. The singer is accused of rape.
US singer Chris Brown has been sued over rape allegations. A woman filed a civil lawsuit Thursday seeking $20 million in damages from Brown. She accused the R&B star of drugging and raping her on a Florida yacht in December 2020, according to court documents seen by AFP.
Brown invited the dancer, choreographer and musician, who is not named in the lawsuit, to board music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs’ yacht. There he served her a drink after which she felt “disoriented” and “physically unstable”. In this state, Brown led her into a bedroom and raped her.
Chris Brown denies allegations
The plaintiff’s “traumatic” experiences “should appall us all,” according to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles. “It’s time to send the message to defendant Chris Brown that enough is enough.” The plaintiff not only wants justice for herself, but also wants to be a role model for others “who are now or have been at the mercy of the defendant Chris Brown.”
Lawyers Ariel Mitchell and George Vrabeck told TMZ that their client did not report the incident to the police because she was ashamed.
Brown denied the allegations on Instagram. “I hope you all notice the pattern,” he wrote. “Whenever I release new music or projects, they pull shit like that.”
Always trouble with the judiciary
Brown has had trouble with the judiciary in recent years. In 2019, he was briefly arrested in Paris after a woman accused him of raping her in a luxury hotel. He denied the allegations and was not charged.
In 2009, a US court sentenced Brown to five years probation and 180 days of community service for assaulting his then-girlfriend, R&B star Rihanna.
At the time, his beating attack made headlines around the world: shortly before the Grammy Awards, the rapper had hit Rihanna so badly in an argument that she had to cancel her performance. Police photos of the injured Rihanna went around the world.
