Choose your sofa according to the configuration of the living room

When choosing your sofait is important to take into consideration the layout of your living room.

For a large living room

If your living room is spacious, the choice of your sofa will be simplified. You will have the space for different sofa shapes and sizes. For example, you can, among other things, opt for:

  • a corner sofa which will be able to accommodate more people, as well as allow to delimit spaces in this large room;
  • a straight sofa to be installed against a wall or offset from the wall;
  • a sofa with meridian.
  • a modular sofa which will allow you to really design your sofa as you want it and to play with the space according to your desires.

For a small living room

If your living room is more modest in size, it will be necessary to choose your sofa according to the space you have and not to think too big. Your goal should then be to preserve the visual harmony of your living room without overloading it.

You should also remember to keep sufficient circulation space. This must be at least 50 cm in front of the sofa. You can then opt for:

  • a straight sofa which is often the type of sofa that seems obvious for a small living room;
  • a corner sofa which allows you to benefit from a larger seating space for less space;
  • a BZ bench seat or a sofa bed which will also allow you to benefit from a bed.

A sofa adapted to the decorative style of the living room

As the centerpiece of your living room, the sofa should blend with the style you have already given this room or want to infuse into it. To do this, you need to consider the following two things.

The right color

  • Light colors such as beige, light gray, etc. : if you want to give your living room a clean, even minimalist look, they are ideal. Plus, the neutral hues offer plenty of customization options. You can, for example, bring color with cushions or a plaid. On the other hand, these colors are dirtier and therefore require more maintenance.
  • Dark colors like anthracite gray, black, etc. : for a sofa that is easier to maintain, you can turn to dark tones. They will bring a modern and chic touch, but may darken the room, especially if it is small or poorly lit.
  • The more colorful tones like blue, argan yellow, etc. : you can opt for a more colorful sofa that will bring an original touch to your interior. But beware, if your tastes change quickly, think about the risk of getting tired of the color over time. Prefer this solution in a room where the walls are in a rather neutral color to avoid a lack of taste.

The right coating

The choice of the coating will be guided as much by the aesthetic aspect as by the practical aspect. Indeed, if you have young children or animals, you cannot ignore them in your choice, because they require you to have a easy-care coating.

Here are some tips to guide you:

  • The cotton : in general, the fabric is comfortable and brings a cozy touch to the living room, but a stain-resistant treatment is imperative.
  • Velvet : it will bring a vintage style to your interior, but its maintenance is more complicated.
  • The leather : of the different materials, it is the one that ages best and is the easiest to maintain. On the other hand, it absolutely does not mix well with the claws of cats, for example.
  • the synthetic offers greater resistance and is really easy to maintain.

Very important, remember to check if the sofa is removable.

Choose a sofa according to its use

Depending on the use of the sofa, you will also turn to different sofas. This is why it is important to determine your needs before purchasing it.

Take advantage of a bed or an extra bed

If you live in a studio or a small apartment where a bedroom is missing, the sofa bedalso called a sofa bed, the BZ bench or the click-clac can play the roles of sofa and bed very well.

Be careful, however, if you have to sleep there regularly, it will be important to ensure that the bedding is comfortable enough. It can be a cool solution for a teenager’s room. Similarly, if you need an extra bed at home for people passing through, this type of sofa is ideal.

In this case, you can then allow yourself to be less demanding on the quality of the bedding.

Relax

If when you think of the sofa, the first images that come to mind are those of relaxing with a book, watching TV, socializing, etc., focus on seat comfort fixed sofas at the time of your choice.

If you often have friends who sleepovers at your house, choosing a convertible sofa will be wise.

If you have kids or pets that are allowed on the couch, consider a durable sofa. You can opt for rectified leather, for example, which can be cleaned with a sponge. Sofas with removable covers are also a good solution. Fabric sofas should preferably be waterproofed beforehand to avoid stains. In this case, avoid leather or nubuck sofas that require care.
