Chita Rivera, great figure of Broadway musicals, dies at 91

American comedian, singer and actress Chita Rivera died on Tuesday January 30 at the age of 91, according to her family. She died in New York after a “brief illness”declared his daughter Lisa Mordente, in a press release.

A pioneer of Hispanic actresses in the very closed world of Broadway, she became known in particular for her roles in West Side Story in 1957 and Chicago. But she did not land the leading role in the legendary film adaptation of West Side Story – Rita Moreno, another Hispanic, was on the bill.

Chita Rivera, born January 23, 1933 as Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero in Washington, to a Puerto Rican father who was a musician in the Navy, learned singing, piano and ballet from an early age.
