Chinese city of Jinan Accepting “CBDC digital yuan” payments for bus fares

Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province in eastern China have begun to support adoption “Digital Yuan”, the country’s central bank digital currency (CBDC), on all bus routes.

The move is part of a broader drive to promote digital yuan adoption in China. Back on April 23, the Chinese city of Changshu announced that it would start paying civil servants’ salaries in digital yuan. According to the announcement, all levels of personnel in public services, government institutions and government agencies will be paid in the country’s CBDC starting May.
