China’s deflation phase: hope despite economic crisis – Economy

The Hong Kong restaurant in the basement of Beijing’s Hopson One shopping center has a message for its customers: “After the pandemic, we didn’t expect things to get any harder,” reads a sign above the counter. Anyone who has financial problems can simply order a “love meal,” beef and offal with noodles, and doesn’t have to pay anything. “Do not give up hope.” Free meals for those in need have been a trend in many countries during the coronavirus pandemic. But in China, the signs can still be found in some restaurants more than a year after the lockdowns ended.
