The children’s book author Margit Auer, celebrated for “The School of Magical Animals”, on linguistic corrections in Roald Dahl’s work, the current school madness and how to get children to read.

The first volume of Margit Auer’s “The School of Magical Animals” was published ten years ago. Since then, the books in the series have sold a total of more than eight million copies, and three volumes from their cosmos of characters are currently in the top ten Mirror-Bestseller list for children’s books. During the corona pandemic, sales of the first volume jumped from 80,000 to 100,000 a year. “The School of Magical Animals 2” was the most successful German film of the past year with 2.5 million cinema viewers. Margit Auer comes briskly to the table in a Munich museum café, she speaks quickly and cheerfully.
