Childcare: Munich’s daycare parent initiatives are demanding more money from the city of Munich

The facilities complain that the costs have increased, but the city’s payments have not. Some daycare centers are threatened with closure – the care situation in Munich is already precarious.

It all started in a three-room apartment in Neuperlach. That was in 1973, when mothers and fathers not only founded a baby group, but also an association. A different pedagogy, more freedom, more co-determination: The first parent-child initiative (Eki) was born, and with it the beginning of an idea that has since changed childcare. Today, however, 50 years later, many Ekis in Munich are facing financial problems, their parents feel they have been treated unfairly, and some daycare centers even see their existence threatened.
