As part of investigations into child pornography, the Lower Franconian police raided 26 houses and apartments in Lower Franconia on Wednesday. The investigators secured extensive evidence. That’s what the police say.

Investigations against 28 suspects for child pornography

According to the police, a total of 28 suspects from Lower Franconia are being investigated. Some of them were provisionally arrested during the raid, but released after the police were over. According to the Lower Franconia Police Headquarters, it will take some time to evaluate the extensive evidence that has been seized. 100 emergency services took part in the action by the police and the public prosecutor’s office.

At the same time raids on the Lower Main, Main Franconia and Main-Rhön

Ten properties were searched in the Main Franconian area, nine properties in the Untermain area and seven properties in the Main-Rhön area. During a search on the Lower Main, the mother of a suspect showed no understanding of the measures. Since she resisted the officers deployed, she is now awaiting proceedings for resistance to law enforcement officers. In another case, the officers found a small amount of narcotics during the search.

Cybercrime central office in Bamberg holds the threads together

The raid was a concerted action by the Lower Franconia Police Headquarters, the public prosecutor’s offices in Aschaffenburg, Schweinfurt and Würzburg, and the Bamberg Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has been home to the Bavarian Center for Combating Child Pornography and Sexual Abuse on the Internet (ZKI) since October 2020.

According to the police, the number of child pornography cases has been increasing for years. Compared to 2018, with a total of 225 criminal offenses in 2020, 541 cases were registered in Lower Franconia. The trend for the year 2021 will continue to rise significantly.
