Danger from the south: Chikungunya fever is spreading in Europe
Chikungunya fever, which is transmitted by mosquitoes, is on the rise in Europe. In Italy There have been several outbreaks of the disease this summer. The reason for this is the rising temperatures, which promote the presence of mosquitoes.
Five cases of chikungunya fever have been reported in Italy in recent weeks. The first three cases were detected in Veneto, the fourth in Sansepolcro in Tuscany and the fifth again in Veneto, in Trieste. This is not the first outbreak of chikungunya fever in Italy. There was already a major outbreak in 2007 with 200 cases. There were smaller outbreaks in France in 2010 and 2014, with two and twelve cases respectively.
