Herrenchiemsee was once the seat of a monastery and a bishop, but later the largest church on the island became a very secular brewery. For some time now, visitors have also been able to experience the building, which has been closed for more than 100 years, in all its layers of history.
The dark prophecy is practically at eye level, directly under the vaulted ceiling: “Ferlohren you pist because you turned the Lord’s house into the Breuhaus.” The fact that the sentence is so easy to read has to do with its content. Because if this very special house of the Lord, the Inseldom on Herrenchiemsee, had not once actually become a brewery, then this white ledge far up under the church roof would not have been accessible with a pen or with the naked eye to decipher the scribbling.
