The Chevrolet Blazer has a big name, even if it is a powerful number among the numerous mid-size SUVs in the USA alone. As part of its large-scale electricity offensive, General Motors is electrifying a volume model, the Blazer and the Equinox.

New design, different equipment – the Chevrolet Blazer is pretty for the 2023 model year. In addition, the successful American is equipped with new LED light units, a nine-speed automatic transmission, advanced driver assistance systems, an animated cockpit and a ten-inch multifunction display. At the market launch in summer, the customer has the choice between a two-liter turbo four-cylinder with 168 kW / 228 hp or a 226 kW / 308 hp 3.6-liter V6, whereby both engine variants are available with either rear or all-wheel drive are.

However, many customers are already waiting for the first electric version of the Chevrolet Blazer, which is scheduled to premiere in early 2023. Like the Chevrolet Equinox, the new Blazer EV is also based on the in-house Ultium platform, which will provide a technical home for numerous models of the General Motors brands in the future. Due to variable wheelbases and track widths, not only electric versions of the Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox are on the skateboard platform, but also Cadillac Lyriq, GMC Hummer and Chevrolet Silverado. “The Ultium platform allowed our design and engineering teams to start from scratch and develop a pickup truck with impressive performance and capability,” says Nichole Kraatz, lead developer of the large Silverado EV, “The result is a truly impressive testament to the creativity and… Innovation that our teams can bring to market quickly and at scale.” Like the new Equinox EV, which will not be available until autumn 2023, the electric Blazer will offer ranges of 350 to 500 kilometers with rear and all-wheel drive.

“The Equinox has always played an important role for Chevrolet as it is the second best selling brand,” said Steve Hill, Chevrolet vice president, “Providing an affordable EV option in the industry’s highest volume segment proves that Chevy EVs are for everyone want to make accessible.” The Chevrolet Equinox EV price range starts at $30,000; the combustion engine currently has a base price of just under 26,000 US dollars. The larger Blazer starts at $33,400; the electric version should therefore cost at least 40,000 US dollars. Both electric models should make it to Asia and especially to China. However, no market launch is planned in Europe.
