Chelsea coach Tuchel shoots against PSG stars Mbappe and Neymar
According to Thomas Tuchel, dealing with the players is much easier in London than in Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel kicked PSG stars Kylian Mbappe and Neymar almost a year after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. “It’s easier to manage Lukaku than Neymar and Mbappe,” Tuchel said in an interview with Sports week, the weekly magazine of Gazzetta dello Sport: “At PSG, I felt more like a sports minister. I not only had to manage the players there, but also the friends and family of the stars.”
It is not the first poison arrows that fly between Tuchel and his ex-employer and his player. In March, for example, midfielder Leandro Paredes said that the PSG team needed a “mental change”. “A lot has changed with Mauricio Pochettino. Before, there were things that didn’t work. We work a lot more as a team than before,” said the Argentine the TV broadcaster TF1.
Chelsea: Thomas Tuchel coached PSG from 2018 to 2020
Tuchel came to Paris in the summer of 2018 and should win the first Champions League title in the club’s history with the star ensemble around Mbappe and Neymar. In the final of the premier class in 2020, however, PSG lost 0-1 to FC Bayern Munich. Shortly before Christmas, Tuchel was then, quite surprisingly, dismissed. Before that, there had always been some public friction with PSG sports director Leonardo about transfer. The relationship between the two was considered extremely tenset.
After being kicked out of PSG, Tuchel joined Chelsea just a few weeks later, where he inherited Frank Lampard. With the Blues, Tuchel achieved what PSG had actually dreamed of with him: winning the Champions League. In the 2021 final, Kai Havertz shot Chelsea against Manchester City for the first major international title since winning the Europa League in 2013.
At PSG, however, Mauricio Pochettino followed Tuchel. At the end of last season, the Parisians missed the championship title for the first time since the 2016/17 season.
