According to the developer, users of the ChatGPT software will in future be able to “take a photo while traveling,” upload it to the platform and then chat about the special features of the area.

Until now, users could only converse with the chatbot ChatGPT using a keyboard, but a real conversation could be possible in the future. After an update, the program should react to voice input and uploaded photos, as the artificial intelligence developer company OpenAI announced on Monday. The new technology opens doors to many creative and accessibility-oriented applications, it said. The offer will initially only be available for paid versions of the program.

Users can “take a photo while traveling,” upload it to the platform and then chat about the special features of the area, the company explained. The AI can respond to photos of the contents of the refrigerator with recipe suggestions and the program’s voice function can even be used for bedtime stories.

Voice actor for more realism at ChatGPT

To ensure more realism in the conversations, OpenAI reportedly worked with voice actors. The functions will initially be introduced for ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users in the coming weeks and will then be available for both smartphones with Apple operating systems and Android devices.

At the same time, the streaming service Spotify announced that it would use OpenAI technology to translate podcasts into different languages. The voice and language style of the original version would be retained. Initially, English-language podcasts will be translated into Spanish, French and German.

Generative AI programs like ChatGPT were first made available to the public almost a year ago. For example, you are able to generate essays, poems or conversations from very short prompts from users.
