Perhaps it is the particularly tech-savvy people who are now particularly disturbed. Those who are good with technology have their devices under control. The laptop doesn’t spin. The video chat software runs without picture and sound problems. These people are not used to the technology bucking. But the new chat AI, the artificial intelligence that responds to questions in whole sentences, even whole paragraphs, sometimes bucks. The tech elite in Silicon Valley is amazed. “A conversation with Bing’s chatbot deeply unsettled me,” writes a columnist the New York Times. “I have to admit that this is quite worrying,” commented an influential start-up financier.
