When Charlotte Knobloch celebrated her 90th birthday last fall, it was a hopeful gathering. An impressive company and the leaders of the state had come together in the center of Munich: in the main synagogue, whose stone block is modeled on the Western Wall in Jerusalem and which can be considered a life’s work of the President of the Jewish Community in Munich and Upper Bavaria.
