The “Fack ju Göhte” spin-off “Chantal in Fairytale Land” has already recorded more than two million cinemagoers in just under four weeks. “The comedy by Bora Dağtekin and Lena Schömann is the German film that has been able to break the magical 2 million mark fastest since the pandemic,” said Constantin Film in Munich.

The “Fack ju Göhte” offshoot “Chantal im Fairytale Land” has already recorded more than two million cinema admissions in just under four weeks. “This makes the comedy by Bora Dağtekin and Lena Schömann the German film that has been able to break the magical 2 million mark fastest since the pandemic,” said Constantin Film in Munich about it.

The film, in which Jella Haase (31) can be seen again in her role as the cult brat Chantal, has been running in German cinemas since March 28th. In the comedy, Chantal and her best friend Zeynep (Gizem Emre, 28) ensure justice in a misogynistic fairy tale world. When confronted with the limited gender roles in classic fairy tales, she states: “These sacrificial fairy tales cloud your brain!”

“Chantal in Fairytale Land” comes – like the “Fack ju Göhte” series – from the pen of director and screenwriter Bora Dağtekin (45). The school comedy “Fack ju Göhte” (a deliberate misspelling of “Fuck you, Goethe”) became the cinema surprise of the year in 2013 within just a few weeks and had around 7.3 million cinemagoers by the summer of 2014. 7.6 million visitors were registered in the cinemas for “Fack ju Göhte 2” in 2015, and around 6.1 million for “Fack ju Göhte 3” in 2017.
