Change to the Bundesliga: Gosens becomes Union’s record transfer – sport

The German national soccer player Robin Gosens is about to move from the Italian Serie A to the Bundesliga. Again Süddeutsche Zeitung has been confirmed by a party involved, information from table football after which Gosens would undergo the obligatory medical check-up in Berlin on Tuesday and then sign a contract limited to five seasons. This would make a long-cherished dream come true for Gosens: to play in the Bundesliga.

According to reports, Inter Milan and Union Berlin had agreed a few days ago on an – officially unconfirmed – transfer fee of up to 15 million euros. Now there was also an agreement between Union and Gosens themselves.

Gosens had previously been in talks with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and VfL Wolfsburg. But at Union Gosens can play in the Champions League next season.

Union has never paid so much money for access

Gosens should strengthen the left flank at Union. He will compete there with Frenchman Jérôme Roussillon for a place in the starting XI. Gosens had moved to the Netherlands under the radar of the top German clubs – and from there to Italy. First to Atalanta Bergamo, where he played his way into the German national team, then to Inter Milan. The Lombards only committed Gosens a year ago for allegedly 27.4 million euros. At this year’s Champions League finalist Inter, Gosens had to fear that he would continue to receive little playing time behind Italian national defender Federico Dimarco. In addition, Inter are reportedly about to sign Carlos Augusto (AC Monza), who is also based on the left wing.

The transfer represents a quantum leap for 1. FC Union. Gosens, should the signature be made, will be the absolute record transfer from Köpenick. Striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who has since moved on to Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League, is considered Union’s most expensive acquisition to date. He is said to have cost the Berlin club 8.5 million euros.

One of the reasons for Gosens’ move to the Bundesliga is obviously the upcoming European Championship in Germany in 2024. He should hope that national coach Hansi Flick will also stop by the old forester’s office to see Gosens’ qualities for himself. However, the relationship between Flick and the Union management can be described as tense.

Union manager Ruhnert renewed criticism of national coach Flick

Most recently, Flick had reacted thin-skinned to the criticism that Union manager Oliver Ruhnert in the Southgerman newspaper had expressed. He had accused Flick of not nominating for performance. As a concrete example, Ruhnert gave the Union player Rani Khedira, who suffered a muscle injury in the 4-0 cup win at Astoria Walldorf on Sunday and will be out for an indefinite period.

In a podcast by table football Ruhnert now said that there was no discussion after Flick’s armored reply (“great audacity”). Ruhnert accepted this fact, but stressed that he considered himself fundamentally entitled to make his observations about the national team known. “I think you can express your opinion as the person responsible,” said Ruhnert: “It’s just important to me to say that you can also deal with external and content-related things without doubting your own path. But if you never question your own path, then it will be difficult. Or you can always be questioned by the people around you, “explained Ruhnert to Flicks.

Ruhnert emphasized that it was not a personally colored criticism. “It’s not about Hansi Flick personally, it’s about the general issue. And I don’t think you have to fool yourself when it comes to the general issue. Everyone who is a football fan wants a successful national team and long-term successful national teams.”
