Marcel Schäfer is leaving VfL Wolfsburg. As the Bundesliga soccer team announced on Wednesday, the sports director was relieved of his duties with immediate effect. The 39-year-old informed the club of his desire to change and asked to terminate his existing contract early.

The long-time Wolfsburg professional, who became German champion with the club in 2009, was promoted to managing director at VfL in February 2023. He previously worked as the Wolves’ sports director since 2018.
