The pragmatist Matthias Pees, the director of the Berlin Festival, has long mastered what the DFB can do: after persistently miserable performances on the pitch, the only thing that can help is a change of coach. The place in this case is the Berliner Theatertreffen, the most important German theater festival. The coach who has to leave after a weak first season is an entire collective of curators. This last three-person management team will be replaced by the theater and festival organizer Nora Hertlein-Hull. The Austrian, born in 1982, will be the sole head of Theatertreffen from January next year. She is currently responsible for the renowned Lessing Days at Hamburg’s Thalia Theater, where she has been employed since 2018.
