Chancellor’s summer press conference: 38 questions for Olaf Scholz – Politics

Olaf Scholz has a lot to explain: how the federal government gets the gas storage tanks full, why he knows absolutely nothing about windy tax deals in Hamburg, and in general that he remains calm even in these times.

At the very end, after 106 minutes and answers to the questions of 37 journalists, things could go wrong again. The 38th and last questioner wants to know whether Olaf Scholz sometimes misses Angela Merkel in view of the dramatic situation. What is he supposed to say now? No, wouldn’t be a good answer. Yes, even less. “Well,” says Scholz after a short pause, “I like to talk to her on the phone, but I also like being chancellor now.” After that he can rise contentedly. On the one hand, because a number of laughs show that the answer is sufficiently quick-witted. Above all, however, because after this press conference it is probably not bad at all to have made it clear once again that he would like to be chancellor.
