What was going on? That’s what many followers of Olaf Scholz must have thought on Instagram early on Sunday morning. Apparently, the Chancellor surprised there with a message that was not very Christmassy.

Sure: Everyone celebrates Christmas differently, contemplation and a good atmosphere are not mandatory in Germany. Nevertheless, it was amazing what insights Chancellor Olaf Scholz apparently shared with his followers on Instagram early Sunday morning.

There he apparently showed his very personal “Christmas tree” in a post, writing “I ♥️ our 🎄”. The special thing about it: The photo didn’t show a beautifully decorated fir or spruce tree with lots of candles and balls, but the sad remains of half a pineapple.

Olaf Scholz: Christmas message quickly deleted

The decoration around it was also not very festive: only a few tea lights reminded of the Advent season, and there were also a number of Rocher balls. At least some gifts and letters made it under the “tree”.

His followers did not have time to see this very special Christmas message from the Chancellor for a long time: the post was already deleted after just a few minutes. A Twitter user from Stuttgart had already noticed the post at this point.

A spokesman for the Federal Press Office said at the request of the star informed that the photo was not a post from the Federal Chancellor, so it was immediately deleted. The background is a technical error, the technical processes would be checked in order to avoid such an error in the future.

One thing is certain: The official Christmas tree in front of the Federal Chancellery looks a lot more magnificent, the 16 meter high spruce is illuminated between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Olaf Scholz’s private Christmas tree should also be more lavish than the sparse “Christmas tree” in the photo: Despite record inflation, the prices for Christmas trees have remained stable this year.
