Merkel wax figure moves into CDU headquarters in Bremen

A restaurateur in Bremerhaven is a big fan of Angela Merkel. He pays tribute to her with a likeness – and ensures that she is treated with respect.
Angela Merkel (67), who is still Chancellor, has moved into the CDU headquarters in Bremen as a life-size wax figure.
The Bremerhaven restaurateur and Merkel fan Alexis Vaiou had the figure made in its original size and with a blue blazer for around 10,000 euros in China. On Thursday he handed them over to the CDU in the Hanseatic city.
Originally, the Merkel figure was supposed to have a permanent home in Vaious Restaurant. But after some young guests had disrespected the figure after drinking too much alcohol, he changed his mind. The Greek’s admiration for the Chancellor began six years ago when she stood by his home country despite the euro crisis at the time. “I will never forget how she stood up for Greece,” he said. Every year he places an advertisement in a newspaper on Merkel’s birthday. Once he met her personally.
In the CDU headquarters in Bremen, the wax figure can be viewed by visitors during the opening hours.
