Real Madrid narrowly avoided defeat in the Champions League group game against Shakhtar Donetsk – thanks to Antonio Rüdiger. The German international headed the equalizer to make it 1-1 for the Madrilenians after a cross from Toni Kroos in the 5th minute of added time. When he headed, Rüdiger was cleared by Donetsk keeper Anatoliy Trubin and suffered a bloody laceration in his eye. It was an important goal for Real. The Spaniards have now qualified early for the round of 16 and have avoided an embarrassing defeat.
