RB Leipzig clinched their first win of the season against Celtic Glasgow in the Champions League. However, goalkeeper Peter Gulácsi was injured.
Thanks to the 3:1 (1:0), RasenBallsport now has three points and left the bottom of the table in group F. Celtic is last with one point. In the evening, leaders Real Madrid (six points) played against Shakhtar Donetsk (four points).
The goals were scored by Christopher Nkunku (27th minute) and twice by André Silva (64th/77th) for Leipzig. Jota scored for Celtic in the meantime to equalize (47th).
Gulácsi injured, Nkunku scores
The game started badly for Leipzig. After a bad pass by Timo Werner, goalkeeper Peter Gulácsi had to run out and twisted his knee during a rescue operation. Gulácsi had to be substituted, with Janis Blaswich replacing him in goal.
Nkunku scored the goal in the 18th minute, but after video evidence the goal was disallowed for a narrow offside position. Leipzig then gave Celtic a few chances to score, but came through this phase unscathed and then took the lead themselves: Silva sent Nkunku on a counterattack to the left, who played goalkeeper Joe Hart and put the ball in (27th).

Celtic equalize but Leipzig respond
Celtic remained dangerous and quickly equalized after the break. After Werner lost the ball in midfield, Furuhashi counterattacked and played to Jota, who shot the ball into the goal (47′).
A turbulent phase followed: Leipzig scored from long-range through Dominik Szoboszlai, but Silva’s offside position prevented the goal from counting. He took away goalie Joe Hart’s sight. A short time later, with a clear view, Hart played the ball easily into Szoboszlai’s foot, whose pass made it possible for Silva to make it 2-1 for Leipzig (64′).

A dream attack then led to the decision: Nkunku played a long pass to the right to Mohamed Simakan, who volleyed it to Silva in the middle – Silva scored to make it 3:1 (77th).
Remembering the victims of the stadium disaster in Indonesia
A minute’s silence was observed at all matchday stadiums to commemorate the victims of the disaster at Kanjuruhan Stadium in Indonesia. A mass panic broke out in the stadium due to the use of tear gas by the police. 133 people were killed and many injured.
Leipzig now only against Mainz, then again against Celtic
For Leipzig, the Bundesliga continues on Saturday (October 8th, 2022, 3:30 p.m.) with an away game at 1. FSV Mainz 05. The second leg against Celtic takes place in Glasgow on the following Tuesday.
