Champions League: Munich’s footballers defeat Paris – Sport

Bayern Munich’s footballers secured their first success in this year’s group stage in the Champions League at the second attempt. The German champion won 1-0 (1-0) against the French team Paris Saint-Germain after an effective and concentrated performance and thus rehabilitated themselves for the sobering 2-2 in the opening game the previous week against the Italian representative AS Roma.

FC Bayern’s prospects in the fight for quarter-final qualification have improved significantly thanks to the victory after Magdalena Eriksson’s decisive goal (21st minute). The Munich team took the lead using a free kick from Klara Bühl, which captain Glodis Viggosdottir headed across. Shortly afterwards, Lea Schüller missed the great chance to make it 2-0. After the break, goalkeeper Maria Luisa Grohs barely saved a shot from the fast Tabitha Chawinga with a foot save.

Bayern’s group rivals Rome and Ajax Amsterdam, which won 2-0 against PSG at the start of the preliminary round, will only meet later on Thursday evening. The two best clubs from each of the four groups of four make it to the top eight after the preliminary round. The next opponent for coach Alexander Straus’ team is Ajax on December 14th. The Bayern women have never won the premier class title.
