Liverpool narrowly and happily wins 2-0 at Inter Milan. Ex-Hoffenheim star Firmino scored the somewhat surprising but redeeming goal with a header after a corner (76th). Klopp had substituted the center forward for Diogo Jota at the break. Superstar Mo Salah raised in the 83rd minute. His low shot is deflected and hits the bottom right untenable.
Previously, the “Reds” were very lucky. In a hard-fought game, Inter’s Calhanoglu only hit the ball on the crossbar (16′).
The game, in which six ex-Bundesliga stars (Vidal, Perisic, Calhanoglu and Dzeko for Inter, Konaté and Thiago for Liverpool) are in the starting eleven, lives on for a long time from a high intensity.
Both teams pressed up from the start and made a calm build-up game impossible. Liverpool in particular always manage to win the ball in the opposing half, but the Milanese seem to be prepared for that.
The best chance in the first half for Klopp and the “Reds” was awarded by the newly crowned Africa Cup Mané with a header (14th). The Senegalese heads just over a Robertson free-kick from the left half-field.
Liverpool’s new star Luis Diaz (25) is causing a stir again. This time he only came on for Mané in the 59th minute. The winger had made a powerful impression in his first days at the club.
The Colombian started against Leicester City (2-0) in the league at the weekend and delivered such a good game that he was only taken off to great applause in added time.
Diaz also raises the alarm again against strong defenders from Milan. But his shot from 20 meters on the left goes well over it (67th).
Inter was clearly the better team in the second half. Above all, Džeko, Çalhanoğlu and Perišić stand out on this evening. What the Inter players and ex-Bundesliga stars show technically in many situations is of the highest quality.
But with a 2-0 win, Liverpool now have one foot in the quarter-finals.
