Hamburg can look forward to further European Cup games. With the 1-0 win against Antwerp, Donetsk makes the playoffs of the Europa League clear. Progression in the Champions League is still possible.

Hamburg can look forward to further games from Shakhtar Donetsk in the European Football Cup.

In their third guest appearance at the Volksparkstadion, the Ukrainian club secured third place in the group phase of the Champions League with a 1-0 (1-0) win against Royal Antwerp – and thus at least participation in the playoffs in the Europa League. With one match day still to come, it is still possible for the Ukrainians to advance in the premier class.

Mykola Matwijenko (12th minute) scored the winning goal for Donetsk. The Belgians, who are coached by former Bundesliga professional Mark van Bommel, finished last in the group phase. The Dutchman trained VfL Wolfsburg for just over three months in 2021.

Shakhtar beat Barcelona in the group

The other European Cup games in Donetsk will probably also be played in the Volksparkstadion. According to dpa information, it is currently only a matter of final approvals when it is clear in which competition the club will continue. Because of the Russian war of aggression, Shakhtar’s home games no longer take place in Ukraine.

In the first game at Volkspark in September, the Ukrainians suffered a 1-3 defeat against FC Porto. In the second home game, Shakhtar annoyed the weak Spanish top club FC Barcelona and deservedly won 1-0.
